Gwent Education Multilingual Service (GEMS) is a regional support service funded by Welsh government.
It provides schools with learning advice and language support (if languages are available) for multilingual pupils whose first language is not Welsh or English.
GEMS provides:
- advice, support and guidance for schools and governing bodies
- bilingual assessments, if required, to identify the support needed
- home visits to make sure communication between the home and schools is strong
School information is passed on to the parents in their home language. Their concerns and questions are then passed back to the school.
