Formal joint consultation to reduce the capacity and extend the age range at Malpas Church in Wales Primary School

This is a formal consultation on a joint proposal put forward by the Governing Body of Malpas Church in Wales Primary School together with Newport City Council:

To reduce the published admission number of Malpas Church in Wales Primary School from 54 to 45 from September 2024; and to extend the age range from 4-11 to 3-11 with effect from September 2025.

Consultation

The consultation ran from 19 June 2023 until 30 July 2023.

The consultation process represented an opportunity for people to learn about the proposal, ask questions and make comments that will be recorded and summarised in a consultation report. The report will be published on the school’s website and the council’s website and will be considered when the governing body and the council decide the way forward.

Publication of statutory notice

The governing body of Malpas Church in Wales Primary School and Newport City Council’s cabinet member for education and early years have considered all views expressed and responses received during the formal consultation process and decided to proceed with the proposal to statutory notice stage.

Statutory Notice Period 11 December 2023 – 19 January 2024

The statutory notice period allowed people to express their views in support of or objection to the proposal.

Determination

The consultation passed through the statutory notice stage without objection and therefore a final decision was taken by the Governing Body of Malpas Church in Wales Primary School and Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Education & Early Years.

Final decision

The Governing Body of Malpas Church in Wales Primary School and Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Education & Early Years have made the decision to implement the proposal to reduce the capacity of Malpas Church in Wales Primary school from 378 to 315 pupil places from September 2024; and to extend the age range from 4-11 to 3-11 with effect from September 2025.
